I’m not immune to the covid 3D printing craze, I’ve been printing more or less since May 2020. Lately though, I’ve been trying my hand at making timelapses. Here are two of them, sped way up.

A Two-Way (Double Threaded) Screw

This screw has two threads on the same shaft, one going clockwise and one going counter-clockwise. Where they cross each other you get that spiky, pinecone look. Is it useful? No idea. Did I watch the whole thing anyway? No, that’s what the timelapse is for.

A Lithophane of My Friend’s Dog

A lithophane is a picture made out of thickness instead of ink. The print is a thin panel - thick spots block more light and show up dark, thin spots let light through and glow. With nothing behind it, it just looks like a lumpy white rectangle. Put a light behind it and suddenly there’s a dog (or whatever your image is).

I can’t take credit for the hard part. Lithophane Maker takes a regular photo and turns it into an .stl that’s ready to slice, so all I did was pick a good picture and hit print.
